Pete is a Western Colorado native (long enough to count, anyway) and has been fly fishing here since the mid ‘90s.

Born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in Grand Junction, CO, Pete Ashman is a child of the west. His love of the outdoors and the waters that flow through the canyons and valleys of Colorado’s Western Slope started at an early age and has only grown over the years. His approach to guided fishing is “safety first, then fun, then fish” and his 25 years in the aquatic safety industry are a testament to those priorities. A conservationist and animal lover, he is fiercely committed to the protection of natural resources and the finned, feathered, and furry creatures that inhabit them.

“There will be days when the fishing is better than one’s most optimistic forecast, others when it’s far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.”

— Roderick Haig Brown

Every day on the water is an opportunity to learn — a fish in the net is purely by-catch (pun fully intended). Improvements to casting, rigging tips and tricks, reading the water, streamside entomology, local history, geology, ecology — these are all aspects of a day well spent on the river. Oh, and a good shore lunch!
